09 Feb Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day
Love it or loathe it Valentine’s Day has come a long way from its surprisingly dark beginnings. Emperor Claudius II decreed in AD 270 that men made better soldiers when single and banned the institution of marriage. Three heroes by the name of Valentine flagrantly ignored his omnipotence and continued to marry couples in secret until they were found out and executed for their disobedience. Fast forward a couple of millennia and it’s the internationally recognised day of love celebrating these three heroes’ love of love. This day has spurred millions of people to drop the knee and ask the biggest question there is. From murky beginnings to one of the happiest moments in people’s lives. It’s quite the journey. #valentinesday #valentinesproposal #gettinghitched
In one survey 20% of couples said they popped the question on this propitious day. As we publish, with only a few more days until the 14th, it’s about to get really busy here at the Fonthill venues! As planning commences in earnest for the newly engaged we can’t wait to hear all the plans. Is it to be a one day celebration or possibly two, perhaps even three? Will it be with just close family or with friends too from far and wide? Will there be dancing until the sun rises or be kept more traditional? Whatever the arrangements will be we can cater for them all at our three gorgeous venues. A lakeside survivors’ breakfast at Quarry Wood, or a secluded and intimate setting for your nearest and dearest at the Deer Park Barn, and then there’s always the prowess of Bake Barn for that wow factor and all night long party potential.
Interest in our venues continues to increase. We now have only one date left during 2022 so please do contact us if you’re thinking the weekend of 2nd July 2022 might be for you. Otherwise we look forward to helping our Valentines couples find the perfect date in 2023 or beyond.

‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.’
(1 Corinthians 13: 4–8)
